This footage, provided by APD, shows the perspective of one of their mounted officers as they pursue a shoplifter while on horseback. The mounted officers were in the area on a different call when they were alerted to the shoplifter.
The suspect, 30-year-old Mark Chacon, stole an approximate $230 from a nearby Walgreen’s pharmacy, at which point the manager alerted the police.
While many American police forces have horse-mounted divisions, these are often ceremonial or deterrent in nature. It’s comparatively rare, and something of a humorous throwback, to see the law still being served from horseback in the storied Old West.
Regulators! Mount up! (I couldn’t resist.)
