The Atlanta Police Department released body camera footage from an incident that occurred on November 14th, 2021, showing the heroic actions of two APD officers saving a man from a burning vehicle.
Officers W. Adams and M. Todd were the first responders to the area of Oliver Street and North Avenue. As depicted in the body worn camera footage, both officer Adams and officer Todd observed the reported vehicle engulfed in flames with the suspect still inside. Both officers hastily approached the burning car without hesitation and attempted opening the door.
With the door handle ripped off, officers were unsuccessful in opening the door. Instead, one officer made the split-second decision to cut the seat belt and pull the unconscious man through the window. Although the body camera footage does not show it, reports have indicated that a short while pulling the man from the burning car, the vehicle exploded.
The driver had minimal injuries but was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. At this time, the cause of the accident is still unknown.
