Civilian Drives Through Active Gunfight to Escape Kherson

Footage recorded by a Ukrainian Civilian fleeing the fighting in Kherson shows them driving through an active gunfight between Ukrainian and Russian forces to escape the city.

As time progresses, we expect to see more and more footage released from this conflict. Not all of that footage will be current or recent. This footage was recorded at the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and it shows Ukrainian armor engaging Russian forces near the city of Kherson as the civilian attempts to flee the fighting.

For months prior to the invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian people were warned that an invasion was coming. It doesn't matter now, but normalcy bias impacted a lot of Ukrainian people who simply thought that the possibility of an invasion by the Russian military wasn't something that could happen in their lifetime. As a result, many civilians were trapped, and are still trapped, between Russian and Ukrainian forces because they didn't take the steps necessary to make sure they could leave before the fighting got to their location. Your plan to avoid an invasion shouldn't just be "pack up when it starts and drive west." An early refugee is a safe refugee.

For the purpose of context, this footage was recorded on February 24th near Kherson in Ukraine. It shows a civilian vehicle passing directly by Ukrainian armor as it engages directly with unseen Russian forces.
