Drone surveillance footage released by the United States Coast Guard shows a USCG Boat Crew from Coast Guard Station South Padre Island conducting an interdiction against Mexican Fishermen just north of the Maritime Boundary Line on September 24, 2024. The five fishermen were in a Lancha at the time of the stop, which is a slender profile vessel that is about 20 to 30 feet long and is frequently used to smuggle narcotics and illegal fish. According to the Coast Guard press release, Coast Guard personnel seized 500 pounds of red snapper, along with fishing gear and highflyers on board the vessel. Coast Guard crews then detained the men, brought them ashore and transferred the detainees to U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel for further processing.
