Colombian Volunteers Shake Off Drone Attack In Kharkiv

This footage from the Ukrainian military’s International Legion shows a volunteer from Colombia and his partner defending their position in Kharkiv. As they fire at Russian attackers with a machine gun and other weapons, they are narrowly missed by an attacking drone.

The International Legion is composed of several different Battalions, usually formed around the ethnicity or lingual background of the volunteers. That would make the troops shown here likely to be part of the IL’s “Bolivar Battalion.” At 0:48, the whining of the incoming Russian drone becomes clearly audible- frankly, it’s a frightening sound, but it’s over quickly as the drone slams in and explodes. Impressively, the Colombian immediately goes right back to his post, manning his machine gun. His partner appears to be fighting a particularly tenacious malfunction of his weapon, ultimately switching to an RPG. The Russian forces seem to be pressing the attack, because at the end of the video, one of the volunteers references firing a Claymore mine, although we don’t see this occur.
