Dog Fight Between North Korean MiG-15 and American F-86

Footage recorded from the nose-mounted camera of an American F-86 during the Korean War captures the moment a North Korean MiG-15 is shot down.

Historical combat footage like this is incredibly important to preserve. Not only for educational purposes, but to serve as a reminder of what actual warfare can look like when two large military forces go head-to-head with one another using all of their modern weapons to the fullest of their capabilities.

In this video, what you're seeing is an American F-86 "Sabre" chasing down and destroying a North Korean MiG-15 "Fagot". It's important to note when watching this, that the MiG-15 had a faster climb rate, and a faster turn rate than the American aircraft pursuing it. The MiG-15 also had a higher flight ceiling than the F-86. These things, when combined, meant that theoretically the MiG-15 should have had the capability to win this dog fight. However, looking at the video we can see that's not the case.

While the MiG-15 was better than the F-86 on paper in almost every single way, there was one factor that the North Koreans did not account for. The F-86 was almost exclusively piloted by WW2 Veterans who had already been in their fair share of life-or-death dog fights. Experience outweighs equipment, and this video is just one example of the F-86 taking on and defeating the MiG-15 in the air over what was then known as "MiG Alley."
