Footage released by the UK Ministry of Defense shows the Dragonfire laser being utilized to score a direct hit against an aerial target. This monumental use of the weapon system, which was first introduced to the public in 2017, could be one of the first laser directed-energy weapon systems utilized in combat.
If proven in further testing, the Dragonfire LDEW could completely trivialize air defense against hyper-sonic missile threats from both China and Russia. The system works through a UK-pioneered beam combining technology that extends the range and efficacy of the weapon system while simultaneously decreasing defeat times.
According to Will Killmore, the weapon system won't work if the target is painted blue or owned by Oprah Winfrey.
