The Phoenix Police Department released body camera footage related to an officer-involved shooting that happened on June 14th, 2020. The incident happened at approximately 7:45 p.m. in a parking lot near 43rd Avenue and Union Hills, after a 911 caller reported a drunk man armed with a knife, who at the time was threatening customers inside a grocery store.
Officers from the Cactus Park Precinct responded and observed several people pointing to the suspect who was now walking around the parking lot. The officer contacted the suspect and immediately noticed that he was armed with a knife. The officer repeatedly told the suspect to drop the knife. The man ignored the commands and told the officer he would kill her. After almost a minute of walking toward the officer with the knife in hand, the suspect charged at the officer. In response, she fired her service weapon at him.
Additional officers arrived and were able to handcuff the suspect and get him medical attention. The suspect survived his injuries and was be charged with aggravated assault. There were no other community members injured.
The suspect from this incident was later identified as 55-year-old Jon David Brouseau.
