El Salvador Deploys 3,000 Troops To Combat Gangs

To combat escalating gang activity in the city of Apopa, El Salvador President, Nayib Bukele, deployed 3,000 armed enforcers to lock down crime infested neighborhoods, set up traffic control points and begin searches for fugitives, weapons, and illicit material.
El Salvador is home to notorious criminal organizations including Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and Barrio 18. The deployment consists of 2,000 soldiers and 1,000 police officers.
