French Troops Battle In Central African Republic

Footage from France's 2013-2016 incursion into the Central African Republic, known as Operation Sangaris, shows French troops conducting a cordon and search of a rural village when a direct fire engagement breaks out against Islamist rebels of the Séléka movement.

Fearing concerns of a genocide at the hands of the Muslim rebels against the Christian population, the United Nations approved the African-led International Support Mission to the Central African Republic (MISCA), facilitated heavily by the French.

The French operation had limited, short-lived results. Three French troops were reportedly killed during the two plus years long operation.
