Our live show host Ronnie recently had the opportunity to sit down with documentary film director Emile Ghessen to discuss the situations in both the Nagorno-Karabakh regions and Ukraine. This is the video of that interview.
For reference, Emile Ghessen is a former British Royale Marine turned documentary film maker. We first met Emile back during the rise of the Islamic State where he was filming one of his earlier documentary films called Robin Hood Complex about the men who volunteered to fight the Islamic State. Following that, Emile would continue to create a sequel to Robin Hood Complex about volunteer fighters in Ukraine.
In 2020, Emile traveled to the Nagorno-Karabakh region to film his latest documentary film entitled 45 Days: A Fight for a Nation, which earned Emile a nomination for Best Film Director at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
Some may say that Emile has a slight bias on the situation in Ukraine due to his proximity to the conflict, but I would argue that there are few people in the world who are as well versed in the situations on the global stage as him, and that's because he has been living through those situations right alongside the people impacted the most by the conflicts that Emile films his documentaries in. His perspective is that of the effected people, only a slightly detached scale since he is usually experiencing these things through the lens of his camera.
It's also worth noting that Emile is a fully independent film maker. Any footage you see on Emile's YouTube channel that is taken from his perspective is 100% filmed by him with no outside help, and the same goes with his Instagram and Facebook pages where he has tens of thousands of followers.
