Iron Dome Intercepts Hamas Rockets

Israel’s Iron Dome defense system intercepts Hamas rockets over an Israeli city. Iron Dome is intended to defeat medium to short-range rockets and artillery shells with interceptor rockets controlled by radar. Given the expense and limited numbers of interceptor missiles, analysts have feared that Iron Dome could be both physically and financially overwhelmed by sustained heavy bombardments, and since 2014 Israel has invested in the development of directed energy weapons to complement the system.
