A Joint Tactical Air Controller on patrol with a few infantrymen calls in a danger close fire mission to hit a neighboring structure full of enemy combatants.

There are three people in a patrol of infantrymen that aren't infantrymen technically, but have all of the respect of an infantryman anywhere they go in the military. Those three people are the Combat Engineer, the Medic or Corpsman, and the JTAC. The reason these three people have the respect of the infantry regardless of where they are at is because all three perform mission-critical tasks that not only enable the infantry to accomplish their objective, but also that save the infantrymen from meeting certain death in a lot of situations.

Doc is the only dude in the patrol who not only stacks bodies, but can also unstack them. The Combat Engineer walks at the front of the patrol with a combat mine detector, and his rifle slung behind his back, dragging his massive cojones to lead a path for the ranger-file to follow in the sand. The JTAC on the other-hand, wields the hammer of Thor himself, and is capable of unscrewing any situation that the infantry manages to get themselves into by making a simple phone-call to his homie, the fixed-wing aircraft driver.

In this video, you're watching the JTAC work. Without a JTAC on this patrol, the infantrymen would have had to maneuver to that compound after a weak mortar barrage from their hand-held 60mm mortar guy. Then, they would have had to maneuver towards the compound, most likely under-fire, all while dodging hastily emplaced improvised explosive devices that the Combat Engineer was calling out. Following that, they would have had to break into the compound, engage in a close-quarters gun-battle with the fighters inside, and most-likely, they would need Doc to unstack some of their bodies at the end of it.

Instead of all that, since Mr. JTAC was on the patrol, all they had to do was sit back, light a cigarette, and watch Mr. JTAC absolutely smash that house with a massive JDAM called in from his government issued Blackberry.

Full disclosure, JTAC's don't actually call in JDAMs with their cell-phone. It was a joke.
