Low quality video has reportedly captured the Nov 17, 2021 incident in which a British F-35B warplane dumped off the short take-off ramp of the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier and into the Mediterranean Sea.
The footage itself appears to be a phone camera recording of a computer screen showing the video which was reportedly recorded by the carrier's visual surveillance system. The plane can be seen slowly rolling toward the edge, and the pilot pops the ejection seat just before it falls into the sea. The pilot's parachute can also be seen just before the video ends.
The aircraft is the first of the UK's 24 F-35 jets to have been lost. Operations are ongoing to recover sensitive technological items aboard the sunken plane. The cause of the crash is being investigated and therefore has not been officially released. However, an unconfirmed rumor circulating with the leaked video states that an "abandoned plastic engine cover" was somehow responsible.
