Leftover WW2 Bomb Rocks Japanese Airport

On 2 October, 2024, an unexploded American bomb from the Second World War finally and spontaneously detonated under a taxiway at Miyazaki Airport, where it had been lying dormant for approximately 80 years. The 500 pound bomb's detonation caused a delay of 80 flights, and although no one was injured, an aircraft had reportedly used the taxiway just moments before. The fact that UX0 from World War II still causes accidents in Europe and Asia nearly a century later, and, for example, France's Zone Rouge from the First World War still poses a risk, gives one pause when considering how long today's battlefields may haunt future generations.
