An incident that occurred on July 26th, 2021, left two female victims wounded after a 28-year-old man opened fire on their vehicle.
At around 1:15 p.m., Officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department, were dispatched to south Louisville after receiving reports of a shooting in the 4900 block. Upon arriving in the area, officers located two woman who had been shot by a middle-aged male. That suspect was identified as 28-year-old Laron Weston.
A few hours after the incident, an LMPD officer located Weston and attempted a traffic stop. Refusing to stop, Weston began driving his vehicle recklessly, until crashing into an innocent by standers car. Weston exited his disabled vehicle armed with a handgun, where he then led officers on a foot chase through a residential area.
Displayed in the body worn footage, an LMPD officers located Weston a few blocks away from the motor vehicle crash. Taking a massive risk, the LMPD officer approached Weston, who at the time had his weapon lowered to his side. Upon closing the distance, the LMPD officer spear tackled Weston to the ground and disarmed him. After his detainment, officer recovered oxycodone, hydrocodone, MDMA pills and a .40 caliber handgun. During a later investigation, forensic evidence connected the weapon to the crimes earlier that day.
Weston has since been convicted of the following: assault, fleeing or evading police, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief and several drug charges.
The two women shot by Weston were transported to University of Louisville Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
