A critical incident released by the Reno Police Department, shows the moments officers responded to a domestic disturbance, where a male subject opened fire against the officers.
At approximately 10:40 p.m., on November 5th, 2021, Reno officers were dispatched to an apartment building located on East Grove Street, after a neighbor reported a domestic violence situation between a female and male. Upon arriving at the apartment, officers immediately heard the two subjects arguing inside.
As indicated in the body worn camera footage, shortly after knocking on the apartment door, the male subject, identified as Isiah Herndon, answered the door armed with a handgun. While the door swung open, officers observed Herndon pointing the handgun at them. In response, both officers drew their service weapons, discharged their weapons, and neutralized Herndon. Herndon successfully discharged a single round toward the responding officers, narrowly missing one officer.
Herndon was rendered medical aid and was later transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Herndon is still in critical condition at Renown Medical Center. He is charged with two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Protected Person, and Own/Possess Firearm by a Prohibited Person.
No officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.
