Marines participating in Operation Phantom Fury clear through a building to obtain an overwatch position so they can cover other Marines moving through the insurgent infested city.
Operation Phantom Fury was the second battle for the city of Fallujah. It pit Marines and Soldiers against Iraqi Insurgents who held the city as a stronghold for their terrorist operations throughout the greater Al Anbar Province. For the duration of the battle, Marines and Soldiers were forced to clear every building house by house cold. They had no idea what the interior of each building looked like, and they had no idea if and when an insurgent PKM would be staring down at them from the top of a staircase.
In this video, we see Marines flowing through a house quickly and efficiently so that they can get to the rooftop. The purpose of clearing this specific house was to get the Marines on a high vantage point where they would be able to cover the maneuver of their brother Marines in another part of the city. Before they can establish their overwatch position though, they must first clear through each room of the house to ensure that it is clear of any insurgents that may be waiting to ambush them.
