(NSFW) Evading Suspect Jumps Curb Causing Head On Collision

A deputy-involved shooting with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office occurred on December 8th, 2020, after a warranted man, allegedly armed with a handgun, jumped a curb in an attempt to evade law enforcement, but instead caused a head on collision with an innocent civilian.

Captured on the body worn camera, are the moments the deputies boxed in the suspects vehicle and approached, weapons drawn. After a brief confrontation, the suspect, who was identified as 27-year-old Dylan Scott, floored the accelerator of his truck and jumped the curb in a desperate attempt to avoid detainment. As Scott crossed over the grass median, he sped directly into a busy highway where he soon struck a minivan, head-on.

With Scott's vehicle now disabled, responding deputies surrounded it with their service weapons drawn. At the 2:48 timestamp, the deputy is heard asking Scott "where's the gun at?". Scott responded to the deputy and mentioned the firearm was located on his waistband. As the confrontation continued, the deputy tells Scott multiple times to not reach for the weapon and to put his hands up. At the 4:02 timestamp, Scott makes an aggressive movement, similar to the motion of a weapon being drawn, further causing a deputy-involved shooting. Scott was struck by gunfire eleven times and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Prior to the deputy-involved shooting, Scott was wanted on outstanding warrants for grand theft and resisting arrest. An officer safety alert in reference to Scott was issued to Tampa Bay area law enforcement on July 29, 2020. Scott's mother called HCSO, after he left a note at her home claiming he wanted to die via suicide by cop. FDLE, who was investigating the incident, later confirmed that no firearm was located in Scott's vehicle at the time of the shooting.
