(NSFW) Farmington PD Shooting of Allen Chase

Released footage from Farmington PD of the traffic stop and shooting of Allen Chase.

Police video of a traffic stop turned deadly out of Farmington, Utah was recently posted onto Twitter. From reports prior to the beginning of the video the officers apparently noticed a traffic violation because of an illegitimate license plate on the vehicle. The initiating officer made contact with the 25-year-old driver, Allen Chase.

When the video begins the officer is given a passport by Mr. Chase who then denies that the passport is his. This causes the officer to order Mr. Chase out of his vehicle which Mr. Chase refuses to comply. The officers are able to open the car door at which point one of the officers allegedly spots a firearm on or in close proximity to Mr. Chase. Although it isn't clear in the video what ensues after the Officers attempt to remove Mr. Chase forcefully, multiple officers employed lethal force. Mr. Chase would expire on the scene.

It should be noted that officers are allowed to order the driver out of the vehicle under Pennsylvania V. Mimms. It should also be noted that it was reported by local news agencies that a firearm was recovered form the scene. The Chase family has filed a civil lawsuit against the Farmington Police Department for wrongful death in this incident.
