At approximately 2130 hours on September 21st, officers from the Glendale Police Department were dispatched to 71st and Glendale Avenue, after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls of reported gunfire in the area. Among those calls, was a worried family member who had informed officers that one of their relatives was outside armed with a gun and making suicidal comments.
Shortly after the 9-1-1 calls, responding officers made contact with the suspect, who was identified as 25-year-old Jude Felix. When officers attempted to approach Felix, he began fleeing the area on foot. Officers pursued and commanded Felix to stop, however he ignored all commands. As Felix and the officers entered the parking lot of a convenient store, Felix drew his firearm from his waist band. Upon drawing his weapon, officers witnessed Felix fire a single round into the air, then point his weapon back toward the officers.
In response, two officers discharged their service rifles at Felix, striking him in his lower extremities and neutralizing him. With precise shots, officers were successful in subduing Felix in the safest way possible. Felix was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Felix has since been released from the hospital and is pending multiple charges of Aggravated assault.
