(NSFW) Gunfight In Hotel Hallway Wounds Two San Jose Cops

This footage, provided by the Police Department in San Jose, California, shows two officers as they attempt to interdict a suspect on the grounds of violating a restraining order. Unfortunately, the officers are unaware of his other outstanding warrants- for illegal possession of a firearm- and a gun battle ensues. Viewer discretion is advised.

The San Jose police officers encounter the suspect, Kevin Briones, 33 years of age, in the hallway outside the complainant’s room. At this stage, they are unaware of neither Briones’ arrest warrant nor the handgun in the black duffel bag he’s shown carrying. He takes off at a run at 0:45, having pulled the handgun. He fires at the officers while fleeing, striking two of them whilst being shot, himself. We see these events play out from the perspectives of the two shot officers, before a third officer who was unharmed. Her footage is admittedly fairly useless as she keeps her camera covered most of the time.

Briones was found outside the hotel, having fled the scene by jumping through a plate glass window from the third floor. He was transported to the hospital with major, life threatening injuries, as was one of the officers. The other officer had less severe injuries. Briones was arrested following his release from the hospital. It was later found that Briones’ handgun had been stolen, and the complainant had previously been hurt by Briones. Furthermore, there were three children in the room with the complainant. Had these officers not intervened, a greater tragedy would have likely occurred.
