Body camera footage from a 2018 incident, shows the moments officers from the Canton Police Department and a State Trooper utilized a K-9 after a man with a fake license plate obstructed justice by not removing himself from his vehicle and refusing to provide valid identification.
On May 13th, 2018, a patrolling State Trooper observed 45-year-old Ronald D. Wagner driving with a handcrafted license plate on the back of his car. As the Trooper began the traffic stop, three additional Canton police officers arrived on the scene with a K-9 unit to support his efforts. During the initial confrontation, Wagner refused to comply with officers, after continually refusing to provide the Trooper with identification and debating the Ohio State law with the Law Enforcement Officer's.
After nearly twenty-minutes of arguing, a K-9 was brought in, initially as a show of force. As the stand-off continued, the Trooper and officers provided ample warnings to Wagner, where they then smashed out the window of his car. As shown in the body camera footage, the K-9 jumped through the driver-side window and latched onto Wagner's arm, allowing the Trooper to enter the passenger side of the car and drag Wagner into custody.
Wagner was later charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest.
What a good doggo.
