(NSFW) Sacramento Woman Shot After She Stabs Officer

Body worn camera footage released by the Sacramento Police Department shows an officer involved shooting that occurred after a woman charged and stabbed an officer in the arm with a large knife.

The video above is the critical incident report from the Sacramento Police Department. It contains all of the relevant video evidence from an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on August 27, 2022.

Footage begins with a member of the Sacramento Police Department being hailed by an assault victim in the 2500 block of Del Paso BLVD. The victim describes the suspect, and patrol officer immediately start to search the area for a person meeting the description of the suspect.

The woman is quickly identified by officers, and then followed into a nearby alley where she refuses to comply with officer's requests to stop to speak with them. A second officer then blocks off the opposite end of the alley and attempt to get out of his vehicle to prevent the woman from escaping.

She responds to the officer blocking her path by charging him with a knife and stabbing him in the arm, causing a serious injury. During the stabbing, the officer body checks the woman to the ground while informing the other officer that he has just been stabbed.

Officers then attempt to get the woman to drop the knife. She doesn't immediately comply with the officer's demands and is subsequently shot multiple times by the two responding officers. The stabbed officer then begins to conduct self-aid on himself with a tourniquet while the other officer attempts to make contact with the suspect.

The woman is non-compliant with the officer and continues to hold onto the knife while on the ground. As a result, the officer is forced to wait for more officers to arrive on the scene so that she can be manually cleared without presenting danger to other officers.

The woman and injured officer were provided with medical care at the scene of the shooting. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by area paramedics. The officer who was stabbed was transported to a nearby medical facility where he immediately went into surgery to treat the severe laceration to his arm caused by the stabbing. He was released two days later but was still receiving out-patient medical care for the injury.

The suspect's family is demanding a full investigation into the incident. "I don't think her death was justified because she was on the ground," Koffi Simpson, the suspect's brother, told a local news station after reviewing the footage.
