The Utica Police Department has released body worn camera footage showing the officer involved shooting of 61-year-old David Litts after a 9-1-1 call came in from the emotionally disturbed man stating he was planning to commit suicide by cop.
On Monday, September 12, 2022, officers from the Utica Police Department were dispatched to the scene of a disturbed man who called 9-1-1 threatening to commit suicide by cop. The video above is the full critical incident report from the Utica Police Department who have stated there will be full transparency in the on-going investigation of this officer involved shooting.
In a statement released the very next day, Utica police reported Litts was found outside of his home with a knife, which "ultimately resulted in a use of force incident." Litts advanced towards an officer with a knife, and officers opened fire in response. The Utica police department has also stated that there were at least a dozen officers in a perimeter at the scene of the incident and that a crisis negotiator was also present.
