Body worn camera footage from an incident that occurred on November 5th, 2021, shows the moments officers from the Dallas Police Department engaged in a shootout with fugitive in downtown Dallas. During this critical incident, one officer was left with a gunshot wound to the leg, and the suspect was fatally struck by multiple officers service weapons.
At approximately 6:12 p.m., Dallas officers assigned to El Centro College, observed a vehicle illegally parked on at the entrance of a parking garage. While the officers waited by the running vehicle, the car's owner, identified as 25-year-old Reginald Alexander Jr., emerged from a nearby convenient store.
In the footage provided, officers are heard questioning the Alexander, regarding his identification. The source footage has been trimmed slightly for the viewers, as the original audio has some unintelligible audio sections. Throughout the ten-minute confrontation, Alexander appeared to cooperate with the officers; however he did state, "he does not like the police". While conversing, officers discovered Alexander had an outstanding probation violation warrant for family violence, where they then asked him to exit the vehicle.
Due to his current warrant status, two officers began detaining Alexander. During that detainment process, one officer observed a firearm in Alexanders waist band. Alexander ultimately broke free from police custody, throwing one officer to the ground. As Alexander broke free, he drew a firearm, turned around, and fired multiple shots at the officers, striking one officer in the leg. In response, three responding officers discharged their service weapons, striking Alexander multiple, fatally wounding him.
The injured officer was provided medical aid and taken to a nearby hospital with non life0threatening injuries. No other officers were injured during this incident.
