OV-10 Bronco Dive Bombs Abu Sayyaf in Marawi, 2017

This throwback footage shows the Philippine Air Force using an OV-10 Bronco to dive-bomb a position held by Abu Sayyaf militants during the Siege of Marawi in 2017. A steep angle is required to drop the bomb as accurately as possible.

The OV-10 has its roots in the Vietnam war, when it was designed by Marines to deliver close air support and observation. Interestingly, the OV-10 could even be configured to deliver small teams of paratroopers, though the number of times this configuration may have been used has not been disclosed. The Navy, Marines, Air Force, and NASA have used the OV-10, as have several partner nations.

The Philippine Air Force is the longest and last continual military user of the OV-10, where it still fills the same CAS role it was used for in Vietnam. However, in efforts to modernize the Philippine military, the OV-10 is slated to be replaced by the Super Tucano by the end of 2024.
