Video surveillance footage released by the North Olmsted Police Department shows a critical incident that occurred on January 11th, 2022, leaving an officer injured after a female shoplifter tried taking his service weapon.
According to official reports, multiple officers responded to a Wal Mart located in North Olmstead at around 2 p.m., after two suspects were reportedly shoplifting. The suspects, identified as 44-year-old Alexander Michalewicz and 35-year-old Britney Bullington, were immediately searched by officers as soon as they arrived on scene, where officers located a "zip gun" on Michalewicz.
It's unclear at this time what the officer was inspecting; however Bullington can be observed taking advantage of this complacency, when she lunges at the officer, desperately trying to grab his firearm. Luckily, Bullington was unsuccessful in gaining possession of the officers firearm, and an additional responding officer further assisted in detaining her.
Since the incident, both Michalewicz and Bullington have been charged with Robbery and are being held for court. Additional charges are pending as officers located a significant amount of suspected methamphetamine that was located in the suspect vehicle.
The officer who was attacked, sustained minor injuries, and was transported to an area medical facility for treatment.
