Footage from the 1990s shows members of the Sudanese Armed Forces attacking an SPLA Rebel base, using ships on the Nile River as a moving attack platform.
The Sudan People's Liberation Army, or SPLA for short, is the original name of the South Sudan People's Defense Forces. The footage you are watching above comes from somewhere in between 1991 and 1993, where the country was ravaged by the two armed factions wrestling for a united and secular Sudanese state.
The conflicts in this region of the world are long and brutal, often without end. The group originally formed in 1983, and didn't find peace until 2005. Then, again in 2013, another conflict broke out when groups inside of the faction splintered off starting a new Civil War that would rage on until 2017.
This right up is an extreme simplification of the region, just to give you some extra perspective into the footage you're watching above.
