Dashcam and body worn camera footage captured during an incident on October 26th, 2021, shows the intense moments a Norwich, CT police officer was engaged by an AR wielding man while he was responding to an area dispatch call.
At approximately 9:55 p.m., dispatch received multiple calls regarding shots being fired in the area of Westwood Road. Officer Dupointe, assigned to the Norwich Police Department was the first officer to arrive in the area. As shown in the dashcam footage, officer Dupointe approached an intersection, where a man suddenly emerged from the wood line. Upon exiting the wood line, the suspect immediately began discharging his AR, striking the officers cruiser numerous times.
Officer Dupointe drove past the suspect, and engaged him shortly after exiting his vehicle. Luckily, officer Dupointe was uninjured. Reportedly, the suspect fled the area on foot uninjured as well. The suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Andrew O’Lone, was taken into custody at his apartment after his mother contacted authorities and informed them O'Lone wished to turn himself in.
O'Lone remains in police custody on a $1 million bond and has pending charges for criminal attempt at murder, criminal attempt at first-degree assault, assault on a police officer, possession of an assault rifle, possession of a high-capacity magazine, first-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree criminal mischief.
