A suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vehicle at an Iraqi Security Forces checkpoint in Ramadi on Oct. 3, 2021, and the incident was captured on a security camera.
Reportedly, members of the security forces were vigilant and able to engage the weaponized vehicle prior to its arrival, causing the driver-triggerman to detonate the explosive payload early. The Iraqi Prime Minister honored promoted a soldier named Hamid Shuaib Abdullah, whose quick actions reportedly saved the lives of several people.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, but also stated that the operation was successful in killing eight police officers. However, the Iraqi government claimed no one was killed but the SVBIED driver. Local sources suggested five civilians were wounded.
The Islamic State has intensified attacks against Iraqi Security Forces in recent months. In mostly Sunni cities like Ramadi, Salafist Islamists like ISIS and al Qaeda will always find harbor.
