Reserve troops from Syria have officially been spotted in Ukraine. The total number of troops that are now on the ground to support Russia's invasion is unknown at this time.
This is the first time in my life I've written about the Syrian Arab Army without needing to also write about some obscure faction of the Free Syrian Army. These troops, which are allegedly part of the Syrian Reserves, were spotted on their way to Ukraine when this video was filmed. It's unclear in what capacity the Russians intend to use these troops, but my guess would be that these guys will be sent to rear-echelon positions for guard duty, or they'll be posted near logistics hubs to prevent harassing attacks. Their track history in battle proves that they incapable of doing either regardless.
The fun thing about the Syrian Arab Army is that they're comprised almost entirely of conscripted Syrians who come from a third world nation ruled by a brutal dictator. The likelihood that a large percentage of these men will go entirely missing is fairly high. Ukraine themselves could probably entice a large portion of this group to desert or defect with less than $3,000 USD. It's also worth noting that while these troops are being moved to Ukraine, there is still an active Civil War happening in their own country that's been going on for eleven years.
