Trebuchet Hurls Modified Landmines at Syrian Arab Army

More footage from the Syrian Civil War shows Free Syrian Army fighters utilizing an improvised trebuchet system to hurl literal land mines at Syrian Arab Army positions.

During the earliest stages of the Syrian Civil War, it was not uncommon to see footage like this coming out at the cyclic rate. The Free Syrian Army initially started as a group of defected Law Enforcement Officers and Syrian Army Soldiers who had defected in order to fight the Assad Regime. They weren't initially well armed, and a majority of the munitions they had access too were recovered from fights they had won against their own military during brief skirmishes.

In order to arm themselves at the onset, the Free Syrian Army relied heavily on improvised weapon systems like the one seen in this video. Trebuchets, improvised cannons, and even large slingshots were common-place on the battlefield back when this video was initially recorded. Over time, as those weapon systems won them fights, they were able to become better armed. Later, other countries would also step in to ensure that the rebels were well armed in their resistance against the Assad Regime.

Unfortunately, over time, the resourcefulness and willingness to fight for freedom were lost to the FSA as they slowly became radicalized by groups of extremists who had infiltrated their ranks after being released by Government forces. This was a calculated maneuver by the Assad regime, knowing that radicalized Free Syrian Army would be impossible to support.
