A local 7-Eleven CCTV camera in Gardena, California, captured the moments two teenagers were shot by a private security officer, while they attempted an armed robbery....with a fake gun.
Around 11:30 p.m., Deputies from the Los Angles County Sheriffs, Compton Station were dispatched to the 15200 block of S. Avalon, after a silent alarm was triggered at a store in the area. In the footage provided, we see the two teenagers approach the store clerk, hoods raised and tightened around their face. While the clerk turns his back for a split second, the teenager in the blue hoodie attempts to leap over the counter, but fails. As he tries a second time, he finally makes it over the counter and points his fake weapon at the clerks back. Now having control of the store, the second teenager jumps over the counter with his backpack and begins taking the cash out of the register.
Unbeknown to the two teenagers, a security guard, hired by the 7-Eleven was on duty that night. Not even 15-seconds after the initiation of the robbery, the security guard enters through the front of the store, armed with a REAL revolver. The security guard initially takes two shots, striking the first teenager with one shot in his right arm. As he now approaches the counter, he leans over and shoots the other teen, striking him from point blank. In a security guards statement, he said he shot the second teenager out of fear because he assumed they were both armed.
In a desperate attempt for sympathy, the two teens begin shouting "It's fake! it's fake!". The security guard responds comedically, "Oh well, mines real!". The two teens, now wounded begin taking direct orders from the security guard, and stand up. With roles now reversed, one teenager asks "Am I shot?" and the security guard giving an immediate response of "Oh f*** yeah!".
Lucky for these two teens, the security guard didn't continue shooting. The security guard detained both suspects until officers arrived on the scene. Both teenagers were transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. As a result, both teenagers, who were aged 16-years-old, were charged with robbery and are being held without bail.
