Soldiers of the Ukrainian 3rd Assault Brigade fight in rubble south of Bakhmut. Russian soldiers can be seen scooting from left to right and are engaged by the camera operator. The 3rd Assault Brigade is the southern prong of a two-pronged attempt to envelop Bakhmut to the north and the south. Ukraine has slowed the pace of this operation, preferring to preserve its combat power while fixing Russian units in place and grinding them down through precision artillery and relentless pressure. It is interesting that this soldier is using an AR platform. Until recently, units in the 3rd Assault Brigade have preferred AKs and legacy Soviet systems.
