Ukraine's Volunteer Army Hammers Russians With Vintage Artillery

This video, provided by the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, shows their soldiers using an 85-millimeter D-44 cannon to attack Russian forces in Kharkiv. The D-44 “Divisional Gun” was produced and used in late World War 2.

Designed in 1944, it was produced in the Soviet Union through 1953 while being exported to Warsaw Pact nations. Other trade partners, such as China, made their own variants. While many countries still use the D-44, neither Russia nor Ukraine were among them until the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict necessitated every artillery piece available, including those that had been mothballed. Its effective firing range is just over a kilometer, but its maximum range is close to sixteen kilometers, and at twenty 85-millimeter rounds per minute, the D-44 “Divisional” joins the Ma Deuce, the Garand, and Clint Eastwood in the “older than your grandfather but will end your bloodline” category.
