Video put together by a front-line troop with the Ukrainian Armed Forces captures the moment what appears to be two Mi-8s conduct a canopy fire against Russian positions.
If you've been wondering how the Ukrainians and Russians are safeguarding their helicopters in contested air space this is your answer. This Ukrainian troops is looking back into controlled territory watching as two friendly helicopters come in low and fast to fire off a volley of rockets towards the Russian positions.
If you pay attention to the way the helicopter immediately bank out and return in the direction they came, you can tell that they have a certain line they're not supposed to cross. That line is probably outside of the maximum effective range of Russian anti-aircraft systems and well within control of Ukrainian ground troops.
This both protects and safeguards the equipment for Ukrainian forces, and we know that the Russians are using this exact same technique themselves.
