Ukrainian RM-70 “Vampire” Artillery Crew Prosecutes Targets In Donetsk

This footage, courtesy of Ukraine’s 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade, shows An RM-70 “Vampire” artillery system and its crew. They are using the multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) to attack Russian positions in the Donetsk region.

The RM-70 “Vampire” is a heavier, upgraded version of the ubiquitous “Grad” MLRS and has been in service since it was introduced in Czechoslovakia, in 1972. The “Vampire” can travel roughly the same distance and speed as a “Grad” despite carrying approximately 40 more rockets.

Speed is the name of the game here. Note how the ammunition is kept right next to the launcher- this isn’t convenience, but a means to load as fast as possible. The ability to load, fire, and relocate is the best protection these MLRS systems have against counter-battery fire and drone attacks.
