Ukrainians Claim Shootdown of Russian Su-25

On June 10, 2024, Ukraine's General Staff reported that soldiers in the Pokrovsky area had shot down a Russian SU-25 (NATO reporting name: Frogfoot) via MANPADS. This video purportedly substantiates that claim, although imagery of the wreckage which confirms the hit has not yet been disclosed.

The Su-25 Frogfoot fills a similar role to that of the vaunted A-10, providing close air support to ground forces. Therefore, while downing any aircraft represents a substantial win for Ukraine, a Frogfoot is a particularly high-value target from an infantryman's perspective. While the MANPADS team celebrates, the video doesn't clearly show an impact. The Oryx blog, a neutral tracker for visually confirmed aircraft losses, reports that Russia has lost 31 Su-25s to date, though it's unclear whether the shootdown here is included.
