Update: Joint Operations in Pacific Conduct Sinking Exercise on Naval Warship

Footage released by the United States Department of Defense in an official release shows the sinking of the decommissioned ex-USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60) on July 12, 2022. This operation was conducted by Australia, Canada, Malaysia and the U.S. during joint operations in support of RIMPAC naval exercises. Sinking exercises are not conducted often, but they enable surface warfare vessels valuable training in tactics, targeting and live firing against a surface target at sea.

This footage will probably be on Twitter within the next few hours with some pro-Iran sources saying that the Houthis sunk an American warship.

Correction: This post has been updated with the correct dates. This footage shares a date with the 2024 RIMPAC Sink-Ex which involved the decommissioned USS Dubuque (LPD 8), July 11, 2024, and the decommissioned USS Tarawa (LHA 1).
