USS Missouri Provides Support By Fire During Operation Desert Storm

Some "vintage" footage reportedly from early 1991, shows the USS Missouri firing from its main battery weapon systems in support of operations during the Gulf War.

Between January 1st and January 8th of 1991, the USS Missouri arrived in the Persian Gulf. Shortly after its arrival, the battleship officially entered the Gulf War, when on January 9th, 1991, She assisted Explosive Ordinance Disposal teams in disabling a mine. On January the 17th, the USS Missouri fired its first Tomahawk missile at Baghdad. The following day, the battleship fired an additional 13 more missiles, and by January 20th, She had fired a total of 28 missiles.

Reports indicate that on February 3rd, 1991, the USS Missouri fired from its main battery for this first time since the Korean War, to help prevent Iraqi reinforcements from further invading the town of Kafji. Regardless of the short lasted conflict of Operation Desert Storm, the USS Missouri fired a total of 28 Tomahawk Missiles, and 759 rounds from its 16-in./50 cal. weapon systems.
