Body worn camera video released by the Lake Havasu City Police Department captures the moment a 13-year-veteran of the department discharged his pistol into a suspect inside of a Hobby Lobby.
The suspect, 29-year-old Jon Steven Douglas, was wanted for two active felony arrest warrants. Both warrants were for Unlawful Flight From Pursuing Law Enforcement Vehicle. When confronted by officers from the Lake Havasu City Police Department, Douglas attempted to run and simultaneously took something out of his pocket.
The officer, while in pursuit, can be heard telling Douglas multiple times to drop it. Douglas rounds a corner into another aisle where he throws the black object down to the ground before starting to wrestle with a second officer who was on the scene. During the fight, the officer who discharged his pistol claimed that Douglas reached for his waistband, prompting the officer to discharge his service pistol once directly into Douglas.
After clearing and detaining the suspect, the officers began providing life-saving aid. Douglas was then transported to a nearby medical facility where he was briefly listed as in critical condition. He would eventually recover and be transported to a detention facility.
