Syracuse police responded to reports of a six-person fight in a local Walmart, in which one of the aggressors attacked store staff and sprayed pepper spray into a large group of people that included children.
The responding officers attempted to restrain the violent suspects, and suddenly 26-year-old Tyreana Edmonds tried biting officer Rory Spain. Spain rapidly responded with a blow to her chin, incapacitating the Edmonds.
Spain was initially placed on paid leave while an investigation was conducted into his actions. The investigation found his actions were justified and in line with police training and procedures regarding similar incidents.
Edmonds was charged with attempted assault and resisting arrest. The incident took place on July 4, 2021.
